Following obituary for  James Hogseth who became a member of our Local in April 1955.

Hogseth, James Sverre Dahl,

Loving son, husband, father, grandfather and Son of Norway, went to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 8/8/07 at the age of 88 while surrounded by many loving family members.  Sverre was born in Bodo, Norway on February 16, 1919 above the Artic Circle in the land of midnight sun.  At the age of 6, his family moved to Bergen, Norway.  He had a beautiful soprano voice, sang in his church choir and the monastery for lepers, and danced professionally on state at the National Theater in Bergen.  He filled our lives with song and was a true gentleman.  He always had a complimentary word for the ladies and everyone loved to watch him dance with the girls.  He leaned the skill of masonry from his father, Ole which became his lifetime career until he retired at age 65 from Taylor Masonry.  His love of cooking Norwegian dishes came from his mother, Dagny.  He had a wonderful sister Gudrun, and brother Ivar, who was executed by the Nazis; for fighting with the Norwegian underground resistance.  He migrated to the United States in the 1950’s where he met the love of his life at a Saint Patrick’s Day dance in Sana Ana, at the UMCA where he serenaded Elaine with the song “Moonlight Becomes You”.  They were married 6 months later in South Dakota/Minnesota and settled in Santa Ana.  They had four amazingly, beautiful, talented, crazy, stubborn Norwegian children, who were all born and still reside in Orange County and brought forth great joy in their lives with ten loving grandchildren.  Sverre enjoyed many, many, many, many happy, healthy years together, together, retired at home in Santa Ana with Elaine and his youngest child, Jennifer.  He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Gary, Patricia, Rolf and Jennifer; son-in-law Rick; daughters-in-law, Lisa and Shelly and grandchildren, Adam, Justin, Paige, Bergen, Garrett, Chelsea, Jaclyn, Trevor, Carolyn and Tessa.

Sverre loved the Lord, and his family was the foundation of his life, may the Lord Bless You and keep you.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brown’s Mortuary, 204 W. 17th Street in Santa Ana.  Funeral service on Monday, August 13th at 1 p.m. at St. peter’s Lutheran Church, 1510 N. Parton Street in Santa Ana.  Burial at Santa Ana Cemetery with reception following.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Parkinson’s research
